The main sporting focus in Games lessons is on the three main team sports of rugby, football and cricket.
In Lower and Upper First Years the pupils receive two Games sessions each week and from the Lower Second to Upper Third Years they have two afternoons of Games. With our large intake, we are able to provide a coaching and playing environment in which pupils learn and compete alongside other players of a similar ability.
St Paul’s Juniors ensures that every pupil participates and with over 200 rugby, 150 football and 140 cricket fixtures each year, there is competitive sport available to those of all abilities. The number of fixtures within a season increases as the pupils move through the school, with a strong focus in the lower years on teaching and coaching the basic skills needed for each sport.
There are tennis squads and fixtures in the Lower Second Year and above and swimming squads in every year group. From the Upper Second Year onwards there are teams for rugby sevens, athletics and cross-country. Pupils can also represent the school at badminton, water polo, basketball, aikido, skiing and fencing.
St Paul’s Juniors teams are successful on a strong sporting circuit in the London area but we place equal value and emphasis on teaching pupils who play in lower teams. We adjust our teams regularly in block fixtures with smaller schools in order to maximise the number of pupils taking part and to ensure that these fixtures are evenly matched.
